I'll be the first to tell you that there are times in my life and career when fear most definitely played a factor in my decisions - some good and some bad. What I can share with you is that it is in those moments that you put fear behind you and step out of your comfort zone and into the uncertainty that great things can truly transpire.
Sometimes in my talks I share one of my favorite poems about an old couple who waited their whole lives for the 'perfect time' to marry. Today, I am reminded that there is no perfect time. Every day we have an opportunity to make something happen, change our course, choose a direction, and try something new. Will that always be easy? Absolutely not. Will it be worth it? You bet it will.
Why? When looking back on your days, it is much more gratifying to say to yourself, "I tried." "I gave it my all." "I took a chance." Aren't those better than, "I wish I would have..." "If only I..." "What if..."
The wonderful thing about being a salesperson is that we do have the opportunity to reinvent ourselves. To break through glass ceilings and to set our own goals and expectations. So take chances. If something goes sideways - so what? Take the lesson and try again. If something doesn't pan out- so what? Try something else. We get a clean slate every day -- so why fear?
What I know works is this: Give yourself every tool in the chest for success. Training, skills, techniques and marketing systems. Add to that powerful mindsets, affirmations, mentors and accountability partners. If you put all those things in place-put one foot in front of the other each day with confidence, fearlessness and faith. ANYTHING'S possible when you do.
